#STARWARS ‘Underworld’ Live Action TV Show Update Here.

While promoting the new LucasFilm ‘Red Tails’, producer Rick McCallum talked to Scott Collura of IGN about how the next few years may bring the necessary technology and advancements in animation to deliver the Holy Grail of a Live action Star Wars TV Show.

A Few Takeaways:

- Working title is ‘Underworld’, and the time period exists between Episodes III and IV; dealing with the criminals and gangs that work under the world of a rising Galactic Empire.
- 50 scripts are already in the works. Costs of each show cannot be done for under $5M per episode so far and no break even model exists to put into production. Looking for some new major breakthroughs to come in virtual sets, or distribution.
- Ratings systems for TV viewership are a “Ponzi Scheme”. Can we anticipate George Lucas to come in and rebel against the big “Wall Street” types of BIG TV by reconstructing the model of monetizing Network Television/Cable without losing creative control? Sound familiar?
- Will Apple TV change TV distribution, or will other alternate outlets for digital content provide access to these highly coveted TV shows?
